The Knitwear Architects story begins in 1985 with the concept to mail order market sophisticated, easy to knit projects in natural fibres. Owner Jan MacMillan used her experience in interior design and architecture to solve the problems that were common for knitters. To successfully "build" a sweater or other knitting project, she knew it was important to select quality materials, and create a compatible knitting "blueprint" that would effectively convey the information required to get the knitter through the project. This approach to problem solving and graphics with the creation of the company’s unique “construction drawing” style patterns has been one of the many successful aspects of The Knitwear Architects’ designs.
Originally focused on learn-to knit beginner level projects, the product line has grown to satisfy the experienced knitter as well. The company has inspired thousands of new knitters to the craft, and created an important fresh image for knitting. We have been blessed with an extremely loyal following of customers and hundreds of enthusiastic members of our in house team over the years, all of whom have contributed to the success of this original idea. By getting back to our roots in mail order and product design, we are focusing on bringing you the best quality knitting experience possible.
